Need to replace brake lines?
Need to replace brake lines?
Hi everyone,
I noticed yesterday that my exhaust had rusted through where the pipe joins the back of the muffler and as a result, it fell down and rested against the line on my rear passenger side drum. The piece of exhaust was still attached to the frame by a mounting bracket.
The piece of pipe must have been hot when it fell because I took a look at the brake line and a small amount of the plastic covering on the line was melted through to the metal line itself. We're talking roughly a 1/4 of an inch "hole" in the plastic. The metal line underneath the plastic sheath does not seem to be damaged at all.
Is this something that would warrant replacing the entire line or is it possible to use some sort of product or fix to just fill in or cover the spot in the line that got melted away? I assume that the exposed part of the line would eventually rust, however, I'm not sure if there is a solution that would be easier, cheaper and acceptable from a safety standpoint, other than to replace the line.
Thanks in advance!
