2005 F150 Roto Issue?

Hello guys,

A master mechanic friend of mine was looking at my truck which has 9,100 miles on it and said that my rotors were heavily grooved. He says that they shouldn't be. He then walked me over to two of his trucks and one car that all have over 100k miles on them and the rotors were smooth and original to the vehicles.

What would happen if I took my truck to a dealership and asked this to be investigated and possibly replaced under warranty?

Any idea how to approach this.

Thanks

Tom

I wouldn't think you would have a problem with them being fixed at the dealership. I was on my 3rd set of rotors on my 2004 with only 21k miles all replaced under warranty. The final time they were replaced I was told that Ford increased the size of the rotor on the 2006 model year and that is what the replaced mine with. They also replaced the caliper with the increased in size rotors.

That's funny, mine are the same way. The fronts are grooved
(and warped) and the rears look like new with the exception of some grooves starting to appear. I will hopefully get my truck into the dealer next week. They are supposed to call me when they have a loaner available.

Hopefully they will fix it under warranty...I will turn 16k miles tomorrow.

Regards!

I got the larger, vented, front rotors and larger calipers installed on my truck also, after complaints of vibration in the brake pedal (which turned out to be warping).

I just dropped my truck off at the dealership. They asked me is there a problem with the brakes. They claim that unless I have a specific complaint about the performance that Ford doesn't cover it.

I told them that the truck has less than 10,000 miles on it so it should be covered.

In the meantime I had to agree to pay up to $32.50 for them to look at the brakes and they are going to call me with what they decide.

Has anyone else had any success with this mission and if so what channels did you use?

Thanks

Tom

Just a follow-up...I took my truck in the last week of July for warped rotors. The dealer replaced both front rotors, calipers and pads under warranty. It took him 2 days to get the new calipers...meantime I was beating up on one of their Mustang loaners.

Although everything is new up front, the truck still won't stop to save its life.

Regards!

I agree not good to hear.

My truck stops very well. The issue is that the rotors look terrible. Since I don't even have 10k miles on the truck the rotors shouldn't look like that.

I just got her back. They ended up replacing just the front calipers and rotors and turning the rear rotors. The truck stops just fine. I noticed the pedal only slightly squishier otherwise it stops fine.

I actually just posted a thread about an issue in which the dealer is telling me without even looking at the truck that i need brakes on my 06 with 13k and that it will not be covered under the warranty, i've heard metal to metal before on trucks and cars and to me my truck sound like the damn engine fell out from under it. I'll just have to wait and see what they say around lunch time

My dad took his 04 F-150 in to the dealership with the same problem at 35,000 miles. They replaced rotors and calipers under warranty with no questions asked.

What a deal!

brakes warping

My 05 supercrew 4x4 had to have front rotors, calipers and pads replaced at 18,000 miles. It was under warranty for this. Now at 34,000 (they dont want to fix them this time) the fronts and rears rotors are warped. The pads look like brand new on both front and rear. This truck has had brake issues since day one. Maybe if enough owners call and complain to Ford they will fix this problem. Mechanic at dealership told me (off the record) the reason they are having so many problems is 1 the rotors are made of cheap steel and 2 they are not designed for such a heavy truck, they are too small. I am no mechanic but I have never had rotors warp like this before and NEVER on the back of a vehicle. Still love my truck but not to happy with FORD.

Ok guys since when does one have to pay $32.50 to check your brakes when that is your complaint and the vehicle is covered under warranty I think that is BS
