Aftermarket 17's

Hey another wheel question and I really could use all the feedback I can get - I have a 2004 F150 fx4 with the factory 18's on it and I want to put aftermarket 17's but I have been told I can't fit them b/c of the brake caliper..... but I have been told I can fit them --- what is the truth - I saw 2 fx4's today they were 2006 models - with aftermarket 17's on them -- will this work for me - Please let me know what ya'll think... Thanks

aftermarket 17's will fit, the key issue is correct backspacing and offset. here are a couple of pics of mine.

for what its worth, '06 XLT scab 4x4 w/procomp leveling kit

wheels are MBMotoring Gunner 6

Best thing to do is to find a local tire shop that wont mind you doing some test fitting. My local Discount Tire allows me to do so since I have a couple of friends that work there plus I buy all my tires there.

Hope that helps

Here's the deal on 17's. Sometime during the 05 model year, Ford changed brake calipers on the F-150's. This is causing fitment problems with SOME (not all) aftermarket 17 inch wheels. Since you have an 04, you should have not problems. However, keep this in mind, because of the above reason, you may have problems selling those aftermarket wheels if you ever decide to do so (since they may only fit 2004 and early production 2005 trucks). Also, for some reason, there seems to be a wider selection of 18 inch tires than 17's.

thank you

Thank ya'll for all the help - I really appreciate it - the thing is - I want to run the BFG AT's and they dont really have a good sized 18 for my truck but I want the AT because I am looking for a tire that will get pretty good mileage and that also rides good -- thats why I am looking at the AT.......
What do ya'll think?? Is that a good decision in wheels and tires? 17's with the BFG? I have a 2 1/2 inch leveling kit on my truck also - I am running 325/60/18's on the stock 18's now ........... Will 315/70/17's fit on aftermarket 17's - without any major problems??? Please advise.......

That's basically a 35x12.50-17 tire. Most people running 35's on stock 4x4's are using the OEM wheels and a leveling kit. If you are going to aftermarket wheels, I'd stick with 33's.

I have the 17 inch pro comp wheels with 295 70 17 nittos and they fit nicely. They do stick out a touch , but that I love. They dont stick out so much as to look like a hooptie...lol

The pro comp 1079 fits perfectly over the brakes on the 06 models. Im living proof.
