Help with trailer brakes

I am installing trailer brakes on my 02 F150 and they are not working correctly. My understanding is when you apply the brakes in with increasing pressure the trailer brakes should follow suite, but that is not happening. Here are the problems.

1) I can make the trailer brakes work with the manual over ride but they don't work with the brake pedal at all. The light on the controller does not change color like it is supposed to no matter how hard I press the brake pedal.

2) If I turn the adjuster wheel in the increase direction the trailer brakes start to drag and the green light turns orange. The Hoppy directions says this is normal.

3) Also as soon as I plug in the controller the green light comes on and the brake lights on the truck come on. This happens when the trailer is hooked up or not.

I am using a Hoppy Brake force controller and the factory harness that plugs in under the dash.

My hook up is as follows:

Hoppy to truck
white to white (both are labled ground)
blue to blue (both are labled brake to trailer)
black to red (both are labled feed from battery)
Red to Green (the hoppy wire says cold side of stop lamp switch
ford wire says stop lamp)
Black (ford wire labled illumination feed and is not hooked up)

Any help here would be appreciated.

Ed

Subscribing....I want to put a brake controller on my truck too. I have the factory plug in dash harness, but I need to figure out how to get a 7pin connector hooked up in the rear instead of the 4pin.
