Goodyear Wrangler RT/S Problems
Goodyear Wrangler RT/S Problems
Washed the truck yesterday and noticed a small cut on the sidewall of the tire in one of the Wrangler RT/s. I have a 2003 f150 and the GY's are the factory tires w/ 50k miles on them.
After closely inspecting the tire after putting on the spare, i noticed the cut was actually a crack, in the sidewall, near the rim. Then i looked at the other 3 tires, and they all have small cracks.
Did some research on the internet tonight, and found where others have had problems. Has anyone heard of this? Has anyone heard of Goodyear's "silent recall"?
I have read that Goodyear may prorate the tire. I'm going to stop by the dealer tomorrow and discuss w/ them.
Anyone else had this problem?

I work for a distributer and dont know of any recall on the RT-S tires.
The cracks are stress cracks though, and I had them on the 01 4x4. Some so bad that I deemed them unsafe and swapped them out for a set of BFG ATs.
It seems to be a common issue though, so it would not hurt to talk to a GY dealer about it.

I've had the same issues with the Wrangler ATS on my work trucks. I was told that it was a cosmetic issue only but the local Goodyear retailer went ahead and swapped them out at a prorated price with free mount and balance. I blew the side wall out of one but didn't know if it had the crack or cut in it prior but they replaced all four for free.
Just FYI, GY isnt the only tire manufacturer with this problem.
My dad's '02 F250 had about 75k on the stock Firestone AT's but still had some tread left. However, the sidewalls were starting to get so cracked that chunks of the top layer of rubber actually started coming off. I finally convinced him to buy some new tires.
