a little help cleaning my wheels

I need a little help getting rid of this stuck on break dust. I used Simple Green to break it down, but it didnt do very well. Its still stuck on there pretty good, heck I cant get it off.

What would be recommended for that tough stuck on break dust?

Thanks

sorry, I have the stock 17" chrome wheels.
Which are actually plastic covers, pretty disappointing.

I have the same wheels and had the same problem. I used an S.O.S. pad (and know it does not hurt the finish of the wheel). Just use a light rubbing motion and that old breakdust comes right off. Then on top of that I use Prestone Wheel Cleaner (spray bottle from Wal-Mart) everytime I wash my truck and it has cut my breakdust problem at least in half if not more.

This is the wheel cleaner I am referring to.

I've used Orange Blast and it comes off with a rag and water. Does a wonderful job. Just make sure you get the one for wheels. They have several different types of cleaner.

I'd be really wary of using an SOS pad. That is steel wool under there you know and that's pretty aggressive stuff. If you go to the General Care & Detailing section, I think you'll find some better suggestions. For instance, I'd start with plain old fashioned Chrome Polish - which will do far less harm.

I agree, or the stuff in the little round can that has cotton material soaked with cleaner. You pinch of some and scrub. Works great, not very abrasive.

There are wheel-specific cleaners out there to handle brake dust, but that's the first part...Once you get it all off, coat the wheels with a sealant, they'll be easier to clean in the future.

WITH ALL THAT INFO, I'M SURE YOU CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO CLEAN YOUR WHEELS. NOW TO KEEP THEM CLEAN. TAKE THOSE OE FRONT BRAKE PADS OFF AND THROW THEM THROUGH THE WINDOW OF THE DEALER THAT YOU BOUGHT YOUR TRUCK FROM, AND GO BUY SOME CERAMIC PADS. ZERO BRAKE DUST. BRAKE DUST IS ACUALLY VERY FINE FRAGMENTS OF METAL THAT COME FROM SEMI-METALIC PADS. IF YOU ELEMINATE THE SEMI-METALIC, THEN YOU ELEMINATE THE DUST. HOPE THIS HELPS.
