Trying to decide...

I want to replace my factory tires this week, and been trying to decide between a set of Kelly Safari M/T , Timberline M/T, or go with and A/T tire like BF A/T, Uniroyal AWT, or Timberline A/T, the deal is I can get any of these tires dirt cheap because i got a buddy that runs a local tire shop, and i can get them at wholesale cost, I've had the Wrangler MTR and BF M/T before and liked them, but I have a habit of always wanting to try something different when ever i buy a new set, I work for a logging company in Nova Scotia, and my drive to work usually consists, of 20-60 miles of paved roads then to 2-3 miles of MUD, this is 4"-6" deep ruts travelling in the woods roads to get to work, I run the stock 245/75/16 to keep my gas milage up.

THe BFG is a much higher quality tire than any of the others. However, it's sounds like you will be better off going with the BFG MT KM's or Goodyear MTR's again. You might also consider the Toyo Open Country MT.

You could try the Toyo Mud terrains. If you haven't already. They are considered one of the quiettest mud tires available. Or go with what you know the BFG M/T. Here is a pic of the Toyo.

I paid 300 a piece for the 33's at les Schwab with their warranty, lifetime balance and rotation. I found them at a pretty good price at www.tires-easy.com. They have several other tires to choose from at a pretty good price too. It has been said by several that they are quieter than the BFG and they handle well on the road too. Overall, most places I have looked for them have been sold out or on back-order due to high demand. I just found some at a local shop exactly my size and inquired about them, he said it took him 3 months just to get that set. I and a few other members really like the tire and have had very good experiences with them. I would recommend. Good luck

The Toyo MT's are black letter tires.

I know. I have seen them cheaper online but not by much. They were the only set they had in stock and everything else was on backorder. It was a very popular selling tire at the time and was not easily available.(this probably is why it was so much) But if I would have bought them online I would have had to wait.... take them to a shop to mount and balance.....and IF I had a problem I would have to deal with an online company in another state that may or may not help me out OR back their product. I am happy with them, but I will probably try something else in the future. VERY happy for now though. They have been great.

BF A/T are good tires because they were my first set.

When I went to replace them, I found out that BFG must think they're holier than thou or something because the price on them went sky high. So, I replaced them with some Mastercraft A/T's which were much more reasonable. I got almost 10K miles out of those Mastercraft tires than I did with the BFG's and I was doing a heck of a lot more towing and ranching than when I had the Mastercraft tires on.

And, to answer the question you are already about to ask, yes - the tires were identically rated.

Well I found a smoking deal at my buddies shop today, A guy bought a set of 265/75/16 s Dayton Timberline M/T paid $275.00 Canadian each, run them for two weeks, and the white letters started to crack brought them back and the shop replaced them with a set on Bfgs, So I got my nose stuck in the conversation and ended up going home with his Timberline m/ts installed, balanced, and out the door for $240.00 total!! $60.00 a tire!!
