grinding out of nowhere

Tonight i was slowing down at a stop sign. I heard a grinding noise come from the drivers front brakes. Could the brakes start grinding out of nowhere? I mean i had no problems till tonight and the brakes still work fine. But now im worried i'll need new rotors ontop of new pads or worse a new caliper from possibly beeing hungup.

Dont most if not all brake pads have somekind of wear indicator to let you know they are going out?

they will "squeak" while driving and stop squeaking when the pedal is pressed lightly..

chances are that your driving with the windows closed and you cant hear it..

look behind and thru the front wheels and check out what the rotor looks like..
nice and shiney is good
scores and "hard spots" bad..
let us know what you observe

Don't mess around with brakes. If you don't know how to check and/or repair them, find someone who does. Good luck!

Brakes Grinding (squeak)

Mine Squeak... It happened all the sudden too... Had the front's replaced as they were 3mm (rotors too). It didn't help but I cannot figure the squeak out.
The backs were fine at 5mm but I think it's coming from the back. Any idea what causes the squeak? It doesn't happen all the time and it can't be normal as you made seem.

I started hearing that grinding noise (from what I THOUGHT was the front brakes). Turned out, after I replaced the front pads, and still heard that noise, the very next night I was changing the back brake pads. Sounds can be decieving. Check your back brakes first.
