99' F-150 285 Or 315

Hey guys,
new to the site and already got some questions!! I have a 99 f-150 ext cab short bed with the 5.4 and an auto trans. i am currently running 285/75/16's. and am feeling some lag from the tires. with the stock rubber it has great take off but with the 285's it definetly takes away from the engine. i know when ever you run larger tires that happens. I am currently considering lifting the truck with a 2 in body lift and running 315's. anny suggestions on wether to lift or not and tires? also tried to find 2.5 inch leveling kit with no luck. One Last Question i have platinum 4 plugs and a fram air hog what should i do to give the engine some punch thats not as expensive as a turbo. thanx for the help.

Also any of You that have pics of 97-03 trucks built like this please share, i wanna see how much i can do

i have a 99 4x4 f150
and if you have he 4x4 (which im assuming you do) you just have to get the torsion bars in the front cranked up so it sits level, because as far as i know, there are no leveling kits for that

ive seen 2-3 inch suspension lift kits online, which are just add a leafs (or blocks) for the rear and the torsion bar key

im also looking for lift on my truck as well, so ive looked into this stuff a little

if i were you id just do the 3 inch body lift that comes with the bumper relocation brackets, ive never heard of anyone having a problem with the 3in body lift....and i actually know a guy with a 98 f150 that has the 3 inch and i think 315s, and his truck looks really nice

if you do a body lift, just remember to buy gap guards to cover the cap between your frame and bed

hey,
sorry bout that ya it is a 4x4 with the shift on the fly. I just dont want the brake lines to have probs or anything. Also in my area some cops are ******** and i am tryin not to attract too much attention so i was afraid the 3 inch would do that. If I did the two inch does the bumper slide up if unbolted. I was told by someone that the rear bumper has twos settings. If you guys think the 3 inch would be better i'll definetly consider that. Also anyone have a suggestion for rugged looking tires for lower price 285 or 315. definetly need the spce covers anyone know how much and where i can get the lift and cover up kit.
thanx

Hey MaineFordGuy908, if your local cops, yes Wilton has always been known for hassling people for the smallest things.... (Former Weld resident here....) But what do you expect, they really don't have much to do.

Seriously, the plugs and air hog aren't going to balance out the power loss you feel from your 285's. Other than the appearance side of things, why would you want to go with 315's? They will eat up even more power.... If your going to go that route, find a shop who can install new gears for the front/rear diffs. Step things up so even with the larger tires your working more gearing than you had running stock tires.

For the money needed to lift these trucks and the reality you don't get much if any of that back when it's time to sell your truck. I'd stay with the 285's, add some gears or contact the gang at Troyer Performance, just look for their link on this site, and have them hook you up with a chip with programming to fix your minor power loss... Plus crank up your bars, to level the truck out, be sure to get a good alignment.

Not sure if they'll do this type of work, but the guys at Pro-Service over in Farmington do TOP NOTCH repair work.

Good luck..... Hey any snow up your way?

Check out the Nitto Terra Grapplers A/T's! I've got a 2000 with the torsion bars raised and 265's/75 17', I wish i put on the 285's! They will look good. I let you know how they do in the snow! 8-12 inches are expected here1

hey svt2205,
Thanx for the advice, yeah i meant the wilton cops one in particular is a real jerk about lifts and tires and loud exhaust. I know the 315s will take even more away from the engine thats why I want to do some engine mods.
I know the lift wont pay off in resale but i want to give my truck a more aggressive look I am planning on keepin the truck till it dies. I am figuring 500-750 for engine mods. any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated. Also where is troyer performance? Any suggestions for gear ratios? how much does that kinda swap cost?

ohh and by the way theres barely any snow up here i'm done with winter for this year.. bring on spring!!!!!

Here's the link for Troyer. They are running a group buy on chips, check out this link for more info. https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=227214 or the Troyer site is http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi-bin/ppistore.pl

Do some searching on this site you should find some good info on lifts. I don't keep trucks long enough to justify the money needed to lift these trucks. 3 years or 150K miles and I'm ready for the next one.

Seems every town has one..... Hook the dude up with a couple glazed and a Big One from DnD's and you'll be all set.... Seriously this joker must be busy, if he doesn't like lifted and loud trucks.... Lot's of them up your way...

Good luck with your truck.
