What is the correct wheel backspacing to avoid rubbing ?

I'm still looking at wheels for my 2005 Screw 4x4 Lariat. I am going to do the Autospring 2.5 level and run 35 inch BFG's on 17 inch rims and do not want them hanging out of the wheel wells.

Because of the tire size and lift, would I be better to go with a 5 inch back space or a 5.5 inch backspace on an 8 inch wide rim to avoid problems?

Also what is the difference between backspace and offset ? This is all too confusing !

Some aftermarket 17's won't fit over the brakes on some 05's and the 06's, so be sure to test fit any 17 before mounting tires. Backspacing is simply the measurement from the rear edge of the wheel to it's mounting surface (where it bolts to the hub). Offset is the distance from the center of the wheel to the mounting surface. Most people running 35's with a leveling kit are using the OEM wheels. Personally, I'd use 33's on an 8 to 9 inch wide aftermarket wheel with 5 1/2 inches of backspacing.

whats up Dog'em, we seem to be in the same boat... I will post pics of my truck with the king kit with 17 X 8 wheels with 4.5 inches soon, tires seem to be outside of the wheelwell a little... 5.5 would be better, but the wheels I wanted only came w/ 4.5 backspacing

That's the same problem that I am running in to. I really don't want the tires hanging outside of the wheelwells but the rims I like will make it so. Post some pics of your setup and let me know if you run into any issues of using a 17 inch rim, the tire stores around here are telling me to stay with an 18 inch or 20 due to brake calipers.

Good luck !
