new wheels and tires on my 05

Well it's time for some wheels and tires for my 05 lariat. Can anyone recommend some good web sites where you can get a good look at some different rims? I'm going to put a levelling kit on as I want to put 33" tires on it. I have seen alot of talk about backspacing?? what do I need to look for to get a proper fit? I don't like when the tires stick out too far.
any and all comments would be welcome.
Thanks

If you don't want your setup to "stick out" past the wheel well, I would go with a wheel 8 to 9 inches wide with 5.5" backspacing, and a 285 diameter tire.

I agree. Try to stay with a wheel with 5 1/2 inches of backspacing with a 285mm to 325 mm wide tire.

Could we perhaps list some of the wheels avaliable with proper fittment? I'm in the same boat, in that I want new wheels but it seems as if everything avaliable is the wrong backspacing. Moto Metal's for example, are extremely popular but stick out 1.5" over stock.

walker evans makes a wheel that fits my 2005 f-150 and will not stick out past the fender.

Just research it. There are alot of wheels out there. It took me about a month of research before choosing. I went with a Mickey Thompson wheel that has 5.5" backspacing in a 17X9 size.

The way your tires are set up really looks awesome! It is what im looking for. They seem to fit just perfect. I see in your pics you have the rancho shocks. Do they take the place of a levelling kit? How is the ride compared to the factory set up? Do you notice much of a difference?

Thanks I am happy with the wheel/tire setup and Yes, the Rancho's take place of the leveling kit. I had a 2" leveling kit prior to the Rancho's and never really liked them. The ride and handling of the Rancho's are very much improved over the stockers and leveling kit. I started with the shock settings at 5 all the way around and noticed the difference right off the bat. I haven't played with the settings too much, but I now have them set at 6 in front & 4 in back.

I have 8.5" Weld Evo wheels with 5.5" backspace. I think a 9" wheel might put the tire outside the fender lip; I suppose it depends on how big you go on the tire. I have 315/70/17 BFG tires mounted that absolutely do not stick out or rub. I'd consider the 315 tire if you get the rest right. Check out my gallery.

I'm putting the same tires on my truck this weekend, with the King Shock set-up.... Did you re-gear after you did this to compensate for the increase in tire size, or did you go to 4.56 for towing purposes?...

I did not like the way the 315 tires raised the final drive ratio. The truck felt too sluggish for my taste. I needed more performance. The 4.56 gears are just about perfect with this tire. I can turn the tires over, I have decent off the line performance and I love driving my truck again (even more than before).

Do you think that the 4.10 's are not enough?....

Thanks for your input!

They weren't enough for me. Keep in mind, I drive in traffic to and from work everyday. I'm running stoplight to stoplight sometimes; almost no highway driving whatsoever... that said, the perfromance can't be beat. I am a happy camper.

What are you getting for mileage with that low of gears ? I am planning on doing the same setup that you have (Looks Great!) but don't know much about gearing. My truck has the 3:73's and most of my driving is highway, am I going to be okay with stock gears or do I need to budget for different ones later ?

Thanks
