Back space in mm

Are you sure that the 12 mm is the backspacing? or the offset? If it is indeed the backspacing then it's 12/25.4 = .472" or roughly 1/2".
**After reading this again, there is no way you have 1/2 backspacing. The 12 mm is the offset. What you need to know is whether that is positive or negative offset, and then you can calculate the backspaing.

The conversion is 25.4mm (not exact, it's really 25.4..) = 1in. 12mm/25.4 = 0.472 (approx), 0.472x1in = 0.472 inches.
BTW, the "bs" decimal system is used throughout the world. The US is the only country that doesn't use it. (as its primary system) Growing up in Europe it's second nature to me so I may be biased but personally I think it's much easier to use. All you have to do is move the decimal point left or right rather for multiples of 10 rather than memorize some odd number like 1675 yards in a mile or 28 pints in a gallon or whatever the heck it is. That has always baffled me.
Ex: the 4.6L. I know how big 1 liter is so and 4.6 liter is 4 liters + 0.6 liter which is 0.5 liter + 0.10 liter so 4.6 is a little over 4 and 1/2 liter. But WTH is 302 cubic inches? Is my gym bag 302 or my microwave 302? I just can't visualize 302 cubic inches.
