Right tire size

I have a 2001 super crew and I just bought a set of 18 x 8 chrome rims.

What size tires is going to fit the rim and be as close to the oem size as possible.

Stock size is 255/70R16

I am leaning towards 265/60R18

Any help would be great!

IF you are right about stock tire then you need a 255-50/18. I thought stock tire size was 265-70/16. If that is the case you need around 295-55/18. I could be wrong. Over all tire height should be around 30". I run the tire size recommended in door panel of my truck, 275-60/17. That tire is 30" even. I may be wrong look on your door panel drivers side for stock size on your truck. Then use this Calc. to figure the new size tire. Tire Calc.

255/50R18 is too small. Suspect typo on Scott's part.

Anyway, all of these sizes should be work well:
285/55
275/55
295/50

The Miata tire calc is a great tool.

I have a 4x2 and the stock size is 255/70R16. The new rims are 8.5 wide not 8. 255/60R18 is almost the exact size. But the stock rims are 7 wide and the new ones are 8.5. Will the same width tire (255) work on the differnet width rims.

That depends on the tire it self. Tires have a range in which rim width is required. I really have no idea what size requires what wheel, etc. my best guess would be to look up on web the tire sizes given by APT, as all of them are close, and find the one that fits the rim width the best, all should be right around the size (width) you need. Cooper Zeon XST, in 285-55/18 recommends a 9" wide rim, but it also says 8"-10" is acceptable.

Hope this helps,
Scotty

P.S. Post some pics when done.
