can someone please explain tire sizing to me....

i always see x/x/x for sizing dimensions and have no idea what that means.

i have a stock 03 f150 sport and want bigger tires for my truck without having to raise it...plus i think the stock tires just look too little for my truck...proportion wise they look fine on a s10 or smaller truck...you get the point. the dodge ram 1500 seems to come stock with bigger tires and the proportion of the rim to tire looks good as well... so a general explanation of sizing along with what size tires i would want for my truck would be appreciated. thank you.
