Clearance for new Tires

I have a 2004 FX4 with 17" rims. I currently run 255 that came stock. I wanna upgrade to 305's. I don't have the leveling kit on the front of the truck, so does anyone know if I will have enough clearance running 305's without having to purchase the leveling kit. And what can I do about the speedometer after I get new tires?

And just wondering if instead of 305's, should I go with 285's. And besides BFG KO's, what other tire is out there. I havent been able to find any Dueler AT's at that size, althought they have them in 305's.

Nitto terra grapplers, Goodyear wranglers, Pro-comp A/T, the list goes on. I really like my pro-comps. I would go with 285's personally, but it depends on the tire/wheel combo. How much offset and what size tire you have is what makes all of the difference, along with how wide the tire is.

I would go with 33's whether you decide on a 285/70-17 (33x11.50) or a 33x12.50-17. You can get your dealer to recalibrate your computer for the largest OEM size available (275/65-18) which is almost 33 inches tall. Or you can just buy an aftermarket computer tuner (Hypertech, Superchips, etc) and do it yourself.

Hello,

I'd like to know for certain if 285/70/17's(ie. BFG AT KO's) would fit on an '04 screw 4x4 standard rim without any suspension modifications? I have solicited several opinions from some "knowlegable" rubber shops and the dealer. No answer is the same. Some yes, some no and a few shoulder shrugs. This post is the closest I have found (thanks in advance). The tire shops are hedging their answers it seems because this size exceeds 3% of the OEM size of 255/70/17. If I buy the tires from some place like tirerack.com, they will not mount/balance them. I am certain this is their way of protecting their pricing schemes.

Again, thanks in advance.

I have 16" rims. I had 285 Dueler MT's (yuck) and they did not rub. I put the exact same size Dueler Revos on and they rub the factory mud flaps when you cut the wheel all the way from side to side.

I just put a set of BF Goodrich A/T's on that were 315/70/17 on stock rims, fit great and look awesone. The guys in the shop told me to put 9 inch rims on or it wouldn't ride right, but I think it rides fine, better than before with the General tires. I will certainly have to have the speedo recalibrated, its definately off.

tire question

I am sorry to ask this. I am sure this has probally been discussed before. I have a 2004 f-150 SC 4x4 and I want to put 33 12.50 17's on my stock truck with stock wheels and no lift or leveling kit. Will this work without rubbing??
Thanks
