Need Help with Tires

I finally have to replace my stock General Tires. im glad to see them go, they were bad on the ice/muc/anyhting u can throw at them. accept wear. got 55K on the ODO, only rotated 3 times i think. anyway i have been shopping for tires for about a month or so now i found a set that i liked perfect size and exactly what im lookin for in the Nitto Terra Grappler, 295-70-17. i ordered onto discounttiredirect.com and its a no go. i guess they are out of these tires and nitto can't keep up. said they havent had any for 6 mos. But i do remember seeing a member on here that just bought a set of em around a week back. thats how i got set on their site. anyway, they said that nitto is out of em, could be as long as 3 mos before they even got a sniff of one? WTF? i thought they were in the market of selling tires? it doesnt take 3 mos to make a tire. i just want to of any other routes? no ebayer's have 17" nitto's any other suppliers someone could point me towards? local tire dealers havent even heard of "what do you call em?" nitto's. please help! cords arent too far off!

Keep checking online. I'd try 4 Wheel Parts, National Tire and Wheel and any other place I could think of. If you can't find them you may have to consider 285/70-17 Toyo Open Country AT's or BFG AT KO's or 33x12.50-17 Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTX or **** Cepek Radial FC II's.

Nitto

I waited for the Nitto's and am happy I did. I was lucky, I was not high enough up the list to get the tires when they recieved a shipment, but they had a few people who ordered them, and by the time they arrived they no longer wanted them so I convinced the sales guy I really needed them, and he sold me five that someone else ended up not taking (Kind of moved me up the list.)

I have had them for about 5,000 miles now and love them!

A 35x12.50 will fit if you use the stock 17x7.5 inch wheels. It is an extremely tight fit. I wouldn't go with 35's unless you plan on lifting the truck in the near future. I don't know what kind of milage you can get out of the Baja Claws.

The Pro Comp Xtreme Terrian is a directional mud tire. They recently introduced the Xtreme All Terrian, which is a directional all terrian tire. Sounds like you would be better off with the origional Pro Comp AT or the new Xtreme AT.

Unhappy

wandell, you said the 35 x 12.50 (or 315-70-17) is a very tight fit...is it a tight fit on the wheel or with clearance? I have an '04 xlt, scab, 4x4, with a 2.5 inch leveling kit. I'm not very worried about the tire clearance, but i'm really worried that the tire is too big for the rim. i'm also debating between getting 295s, 305s or the 315s, would the 295s/305s fit any better on the rim?

buying tires is a bitch, i had the same kind of headaches when i put rims in tires on my mustang ...but they look good when you're done

Both. Most manufacturers recommend an 8 to 10 inch wide wheel for a 315mm or 12.50 width tire. The OEM wheels are 7.5 inches wide. Several members are running this size on OEM wheels without any problems however. If you are staying with the stock wheels forever, a 285 or 295 would be a better choice.
