Front Breaks Locking Up

I have a 98 F150 2 wheel drive. After towing a small trailer (1800 to 2000 lbs) around 50 miles the front breaks on my truck where stuck on. I have head of this happening to someone else. They let the breaks cool down and where able to continue on. Is this a common problem with these trucks? Any solutions? I have had the pads and calipers replaced.

Thanks

did you replace the flex hoses on the front brakes or just the calipers? i had front locking up caused by bad flexable brake hoses.

I have a 1998 2WD F150, 45k miles. Would you believe it, I think my front brakes starting to stick for the first time on a road trip yesterday. The truck seemed to handle a little funny at first, and pretty quickly (but towards the end of a 2 hour drive) it seemed like I was driving with the parking brake on (which WAS OFF, of course). Stopped at the grocery store for a quick run in, and no better when I got out. Drove 5 blocks home, praying I would make it without melting something, and when I got home both front wheels had a burning smell, a few wisps of smoke, and the hubcaps were really hot (much much hotter than the rear, ebven on a 100 degree day). Truck wouldn't budge when placed in gear and foot off the brake then, but this morning I edged it forward and back and it seems normal. Sounds like the stuck brakes to me, and hopefully not some other major front axle/wheel problem.

So I plan to have the brakes worked on ASAP. Brakes have never had anything replaced to date, and an inspection of all 4 about a year ago looked fine. I suppose I should start by replacing all the flexible brake hoses (front and back) and of course looking at pads, rotors, and calipers with replacement of anything worn or sticky. How does this sound? Any other advice?

I took it to the dealership and they replaced the Calipers and the Pads (Pad where damaged). But not the hoses. I have not went out of town with it but I took a trip out and was really hard on the breaks and they did not stock. I keep checking it by putting it in neutral on a small slop.

contamination

It could have been contamination in the system as well. I know that I had the same problem on my 02 and when they pressure flushed the system and installed new rotors (my choice as it was "under warranty" :-), calipers, and pads, I haven't had any issues. Usually when people install new calipers they will pressure flush the system and change out your rubber seals to make sure there isn't any issue with contamination.

I had the same thing happen to my 98. It was after I flushed out the old brake fluid with new. Had the right brake fluid but still froze. Found out that during the pressure flush, debris inside the caliper got between the piston and wall and seized the cailper. I worked the cailper pistons back and forth to free the debris and it been good now. So with new calipers, you should be OK

Hope this helps
