Which Michelin
Which Michelin
I am wanting to replace the Cooper tires that are on our truck now and I was looking at the Michelin tires. Could anyone tell me if the Michelin LTX M/S or the Michelin Cross Terrain tire would be the smoothest and quietest tire?
We never take the truck off road and do not haul any loads. We just want the quietest and smoothest tire we can get.
Also has anyone ever had anything to do with the Summit Cascade tire. I was told that it is a very quiet tire.
Thanks

I have the Cross Terrain SUV's on my truck and I am very impressed with how smooth and quiet they are. Much quieter than my stock tires at highway speed.
Though they are 'P' rated, their load carrying capabilities in 265/70/16 exceed that of my truck.
Great roadholding in wet and dry.
Huge improvement over my horrible stock tires in every possible way. Besides not putting on the Michelins sooner, my only regret is that I did not replace my 255/70 with the same size. The 265/70 tires look better, but are actually about 5% taller than my worn out stock tires, and the extra rolling resistance and diameter noticeably hurt my accelleration and mileage. I was hoping they would help my mileage but no such luck, even after adjuting for speedo error.
I run about 35 psi.
For a truck that does not see off-road or heavy hauling, the Cross Terrain SUV's are a fine choice.
It looks like the Cross Terrain will last a long long time (I've got about 40,000 miles - they have lots of life left).
IMO, for your application the only downside is the price.

My experience is the same as dirt bike dave except I replaced 255/70/16 Wranglers with 265/70/16 Michelin XLT M/S. Great tires but, mileage and acceleration went down when I went larger.
I have had the LTX M/S on my 97 150 4x4 for around 50,000 miles and they have performed great. Quiet and smooth ride, good in Mud, Sand (surf fishing) and Snow also wet traction is not bad either. At 50,000 miles I am getting ready to get another set. Tread is finaly wearing out and sidewalls are starting to crack. Have had them on for 5 yrs. 3mo. Not a bad deal for the cost. Will definetly purchase agian...

The LTX M/S is my favorite tire. I run them in the LT265/75R16 size on my GMC van and I got 120,000 miles out of my last set. They were still useable when I took them off but winter was coming. They're not cheap but you get what you pay for.
