questions on tires

What sizes do like 285 and 315 equal to in inches?
And i was wondering if a 35" tire (16" wheel) would fit on my truck if I got a 3" bodylift. I have a '97 F150 4x4

The tires i was thinking the usual BFG A/T's, you can't go wrong w/ those.

A 285 most usually = 33" tire and a 315 = 35" tire. You could probably put a 315 under your truck especially with a 3" body lift. I have a 01 SupreCrew with 315s on a stock wheel and no lift. It's a little tight but it fits. I am in the process of switching over to a 9" wide wheel and I have now had to do some trimming to accomodate the extra 1.5" width. See my sig pic and thats all stock with the 315s....

Those numbers are for the tire width. 285 is 285mm, 315 is 315mm. 25.4mm = 1 inch

The other numbers are needed to determine how tall the tire is. A 315/70R16 will be much taller than a 315/40R16, for example.

I'm confused on the whole tire size issue.
The tires i have on now are 255/70/16. So the tire width is about 10" on the stock wheel. Is it able to put on a little wider tire with the same wheel, and does like BFG make an A/T tire that's like around 33-35" (tall) with the right width specs to it? Thanks again.

Your tires are approximately a 30x10.00-16. You can easily fit (if you have a 4x4) a 285/75-16 BFG AT KO on your stock 16x7 wheels. The 285/75-16 works out to be approximately a 33x11.50-16 tire. I ran that combo on my truck for a few weeks after I bought it. I still have a pic in my gallary.
