Best All Terrain Tire

Looking for an All Terrain tire in 285-70-17. I've looked at the BFG A/T and I will more than likely purchase those if I can't find anything else. BUT, I am looking for a tire that is a bit more aggressive looking without going to a M/T tire.

I have the BFG A/T's on my truck and I love them. I was a little unsure about losing the "'agressive look" of my truck by going from BFG M/T to A/T but I was very happy with the switch. Much better road manners and so on.

The BFG's are probably the most aggressive all terrian tire available.

BFG AT's!!!

Miles73003 05-24-2005 05:21 PM

Yea, I figured they were the most aggressive ones on the market, and it does seem that everyone I've heard from loves the performance of the BFG A/T's. On to a new questions, where is the cheapest place to get a set of 4?? Thanks for the quick responses, it's much apprecciated.

If you have a Sams near you, I would look there. I got my 265s for $146 each, but that was nearly a year ago...

wild-mtn-rose 05-25-2005 02:09 AM

I love mine and got them at SAM's as well. They were a little pricier than what Johngs paid but everything is a little pricier up here :( Terrific tires though!!

There are not many 285/70R17 tires availible. The BFG AT is the best in that size. I'm not too happy with performance. but I appear to be the only one. I believe that size is on national backorder, so you may have to wait, or get lucky with a local place that has them in stock. If you can get them for $800 OTD, you're doing great! I wouldn't spend more than $900, though.

Tires

The BFG's 285/70/17 run $196 before taxes, fee's etc here at Sams club, but like everyone else said they are on national back order. I went for the Nitto Terra Grapplers in the 295/70/17 and really love them (So Far) I just got them and got them on Monday. They look good and I paid $150 each plus shipping of about $25 per tire. Installation of $10 each. The price is good, and the tires are nice on the road as well.

While BFG make a good tire they are a tad hyped up in my opinion, but still in the top 3 AT, I would look into Revo's they are cheaper and IMO a better AT then BFG's go to tirerack.com and do the research.

Revo's will be your best friend.

GQQSE 05-25-2005 09:55 AM

I don't think you can classify these as an all terrrains, but I just got a set of the Pro-Comp X-terrains and I love em. For sure more aggressive than the BFG AT's, but they'll also be a more noisy and less mileage, but they're not as bad as M/T's.

jcsc 05-25-2005 11:57 AM

Do the Bridgestone's come in a 17? I haven't been able to find'em.

92max - got any close-up pics of your Nittos? I'm trying to decide btw the BFGs and Nittos.

mshane1 05-25-2005 12:13 PM

I was in the same boat between the BFGs and the Nittos, the thing that swayed me was that people are saying they are getting about 35k miles out of the nittos and 50-60k out of the BFGs. When I drop that much scratch on a tire I want it to wear for a while. I drive 105 miles round trip a day to work so the Terra Grapples just didn't make sense. Just my .02....

jcsc 05-25-2005 12:28 PM

Thx Shane...that makes the decision a no-brainer. Now if I can only find a set of the BFGs.

APT 05-25-2005 12:32 PM

Revos come in 265/70R17, the OEM size, but no larger for 17" rims.
