How to check ABS connector

I have an intermittent problem with my ABS. Occassionally, the ABS light will come on, especially on bumpy roads. When it comes on, cruise control kicks off, and the speedometer falls to zero.

I replaced the rear speed sensor, and the short section of wiring harness from the sensor to the main harness, but no effect.

I would guess that if it were a sensor problem, that the speedometer would drop before the ABS light came on, not vice versa, like on my truck. Also, sometimes the light will come on briefly when the truck is stopped.

I want to check the connector on the ABS unit, but the connector plugs into the bottom of the unit and is very difficult to get at. Do I have to remove the whole unit (disconnecting brake lines) to get at it?
