Yeah, I know there are some options for 6 lug 17" wheels, but I'm a little more of a conservative when it comes to "bling bling". I'm not into spinners or overly excessive flash on a 4x4 truck. I love the 18" wheels that come on the truck, so if I could find something "aggressive yet subtle" then I'd be golden. Got any wheel ideas?

Yeah, I know. The "agg but subtle" may have been a little much.

18 to 17

Can you go from the 18 inch wheel to a 17" wheel? Are the brake calipers and parts the same size? If the truck with 18 inch wheels has biger brake components then you cannot go to a smaller wheel?

Like a truck that has the 17's will not take the 16's

Yes the brakes are the same. You can mount 17's on any 04-05 F-150. Just like you can mount 16's on any 97-03 F-150.

OK, I saw a pick where someone put BFG MT 35x12.5 on the factory 18" wheels. Can that be done .... reliably? I didn't think the factory 18" wheels on the 04/05 FX4 were wide enough to hold this tire. Will this work? Have I found an answer?

Any chance this will work w/o lift? What is the minimum lift I can go with to avoid clearance problems ... if these tires fit the stock 18" FX4 wheels.

Help is much appreciated .... will post pics when I get it done.

Yes, you can fit 35x12.50-18's on the stock 18x7.5 inch wheels, if you install one of the 2.5 inch leveling kits. The stock wheels are 1/2 inch narrower than BFG recommends for a 12.50 width tire, but several people have run this width with no problems. In theory, running too narrow a wheel will cause the center portion of the tread to wear slightly faster than normal, similar to the wear you would get from running too much air.

17's on 18" caliper

Ok, somebody says you can fit 17 inch wheels on the 05 F-150? Are you sure this is true? I would love to replace my 18" rims with 17" rims (More tire options) but I was also under the impression that the brake calipers etc would not fit in a 17" rim.

Go to your local Ford dealer. Look and see how many of the new trucks on their lot have 17's. That should prove they fit.

I agree with you that they have 17" wheels. However, the 18" is an option on the truck (mine already had them) so when they put those wheels on there did they put the same calipers as the 17" wheels?

Yes, everything is the same as far as brakes etc. Just different sized wheels. Just like the 97-03's with 16's and 17's.

actually, i have found that you can find 17 inch rims but the hubcentric, 6-135mm is not the easiest to find. I was looking for plain black steel to mount me Nittos on and was turned back by everyone. I now have them mounted on my stockers.....

The tire options are there for the 17 but wheels are hard to find.

Just my opinion.
