16.5?

I FOUND A LOCAL MILTARY REMANUFACTURER THAT RESTORES USED MILITARY VEHICLES AND THEN RESALES THEM TO OTHER COUNTRIES RIGHT NOW THEY ARE RE-DOING OVER 100 HUMMERS AND THEY HAVE USED GOODYEARS 315/75/16.5 FOR $75 THIS WOULD DEFINITELY HELP ME BUDGET WISE, GET MY WHEELS AND TIRES AT THE SAME TIME SINCE I AM PUTTING ON A 3" BODY LIFT NEXT WEEKEND I HAVE THE OFF-ROAD 17" WHEELS AND THE TIRES ALONE ARE ALMOST AS MUCH AS 16.5" WHEELS AND TIRES TOGETHER IS THERE ANY DRAWBACKS TO THE 16.5?

16.5 inch wheels have a poor bead design, which makes it easier to pop a bead with them than 15's, 16's and other wheels. THis is only a concern when airing down for off roading. Also, 16.5 inch wheels with the 5x135mm bolt pattern are not extremely common. I know Eagle Alloy and Weld make some, but you have many more choices with a 16 or 17 inch wheel. Also, are the 35x12.50-16.5 tires you are looking at radials or bias ply? A lot of Hummers in the millitary are fit with the more aggressive bias ply Goodyears while some have the old Goodyear MT's (not the new MTR's) which are a directional radial tire.

i agree with wandell about the 16.5 wheels. I know it may fit your budget now, but the tire choices are limited and you dont be forced into buying new wheels later. or being stuck with a crappy tire selection when your budget does change. So if you plan on keeping your truck for at least a few sets of tires think about it for a bit.

Thumbs up

i am currently looking into purchasing a set of 16.5 and they are cheaper in the tire market and have a great selection of tires at any retailer. BFG s have a great selection for aroung $40 cheaper per tire and the same for super swampers. i think the 16.5 x 9.75 is a great rim size for your truck because i have been researching for agout 2 months on this. hope you pick the right size.

I agree totally with Philly. The 16.5 has a great selection of tires. Swampers, and BFG's to name a couple, and whos going to say BFG is a bad tire...yea right! I personally have 16.5x9.75 rims on my lifted truck with 35x12.50x16.5 BFG's and it looks bad ***. Tires stick out of the wheel wells just enough, and when I see the same setup with a larger rim or smaller with 315's, it just doesn't look right, my personal opinion though.
