12mm/14mm studded rotor question

Greetings All,

I have a 98 F150 XLT 4X4 SuperCab with 16" oem rims that have 12mm studs & lugnuts. I am buying a set of oem 17" rims that fit 14mm studs.

I am also in need of rotors and pads. To change over, does anyone know if I can swap out the 98 rotors with 12mm studs to 2000-or so F150, rotors that have 14mm studs?

The bolt patterns are the same, 5 X 135mm. I'm assuming as long as the OD's match, I should be OK, but you opinions are greatly appreciated.

Mike

believe it or not, whether you have 12mm or 14mm studs, the rotors will fit, the holes are the same size. The 12mm studs actually have a slight "ring" around the bottom which makes it fit 14mm holes perfectly, almost like they thought of that in future...

and the rims are hubcentric so they center on the hub not the lug nuts. so you might even get away with using your current lug nuts. to change the studs i think you would have to get new rear axles and front hub bearing assemblies. i would however go get a 14mm stud pound out one of my 12mm studs and try pressing the 14mm stud in this would save alot of money if it works and be a stronger setup then 12mm studs

i have a fancy tool for pulling the studs through but it can be done with a few washers or other type of space and a lugnut.

Thanks, you guys have been very helpful. I was starting to get a little skeptical about buying the new rims according to some of the other posts that I have read.
