Question Tires on the standard rims? Help!

New 2005 F150 FX4, What are my tire choices if I got the 17 or 18" rims. If I went to like a 305 would they fit without having to do anything to to the truck? A newbie question, I apologize...

Several people have ran 35x12.50's with just a 2.5 inch leveling kit by using the stock wheels, so I'm sure you could fit a 33x12.50.

Wandell,

Thank you for your help. However just so I understand. I could take the 18" rims and put the 33x12x50 on their without any leveling kit, no changes to the gearing, no adjustments to the torsion bar, shaving of the front fender, etc and be fine?

Yes, I believe you could fit a 33x12.50, or a 285/65-18 (33x11.50) without a leveling kit. If you install a 2.5 inch leveling kit, you could fit a 35x12.50 on the stock 18 inch wheels. Also, you do not have torsion bars, you have coilover shocks. You will not have to regear as the optional tires on Fx4's are almost 33 inches tall.

You don't need a leveling kit on an 03 since your torsion bar preload is adjustable. All you need to do is crank up the torsion bars. I don't know what the factory preload is, but it seems to vary from truck to truck.
