Question What size tires would fit...

I just bought 17x9 American Eagle 187 wheels. I plan on lifting my truck in the future but for now i want to keep it stock..Now, the question is what size a/t tires could i fit on them rims. I have a bone stock '00 F150 XLT 4x4 styleside shortbed. Currently im running 285/75/16..but i am unsure if the 70 or 75 series are too narrow for those rims. Brand suggestions would be appreciated too! Thanks -Chris

p.s. the rims have 5" backspacing...no clue what that means.

I would suggest going with a 285/70-17 (33x11.50), a 295/70-17 (34x12.00), a 305/70-17 (34x12.50) or a 33x12.50-17. You may have to trim a little plastic off the front bumper's lower plastic valance or crank up the torsion bars a little to fit them on your stock truck. How much do you plan on lifting the truck? If you plan on going higher than a 3 inch body lift, I would just wait and get some 35 inch tall tires. 33's and 34's will look good with a 3 inch lift, but if you go taller they will probably look too small.
