315/75/16 Tires And Rims

Just wondering if anyone knows if the above tire/rim combo would fit on my '99 awd expedition w/o lifting it?? (I'm currently running on the stock 275/75/17's)The wheels would be coming from a 2000 4wd f150.

Someone told me something about torque-ing the torsion bars to make them fit...??? Are there any negatives to doing this (wear and tear?) or am I just better off putting a lift kit on? Only problem with lifting it is that my wife is only 5ft tall

Thanks in advance!

315/75/16s will fit on a 4x4 with no lift IF they're on stock wheels, but they'll rub. They will rub on the frame and there is no fix for this aside from a lift. Aside from that putting tires that wide on a stock wheel (7") is not a good combo. You will get accelerated/uneven wear on the tires as well as the rubbing. Also you can kiss any kind of treadware warranty goodbye as stock wheels are not approved for tires that wide. The recommended wheel widths for 315s is 8-10". If you run those wheels with the 315s you'll rub the body BAD, if you can even fit them on. You can run a 3" body lift to clear the 315s on the aftermarket wheels. I ran a 3" body lift with 315/75/16s with both 8 and 10" wheels. With the 10s I had to crank the torsion bars up AND trim the fender flares and bumper to make them stop rubbing. With the 8" wheels I would have had to trim OR crank the torsion bars, but not both. After you crank the torsion bars you will have a stiffer ride and you may or may not have CV joint failure depending on how much you crank them. My advice is to get the correct wheels for your application and get a 3" body lift ($150). On a side note, if you run 315s be ready to spend some money beefing up either the gears or transmission (or both). My 315s took out my trans, and I didn't abuse it or even tow with the 315s on.
