2000 4X4 - Tire Upgrade

Anyone know of any rubbing, chassis issues or drivetrain overload when using 285/70/R17 tires on a stock 4.6L 2000 4X4 (off-road package)?? What about the 315/70/R17's?? Is the 4.6L going to be an issue? Also, if running the stock spare in an emergency how far can I go before screwing up the differential? Thanks, you all are pretty handy.

You should have no problems with fitment going to 285/70-17's (33x11.50). However, 315/70-17's (35x12.50) are another story. They are an extremely tight fit. You will have to use the OEM wheels, crank up the torsion bars and trim a little plastic off the front bumper's lower valance. Even then, you will still have some minor rubbing. Also, you will probably be forced to regear since you have the 4.6. I would stick with a 33 inch tire.

Those 285/70 R17's will fit absolutely beautifully. I run the same tire on a 00 Scab 4x4 as racer 285/75/r16. The 285/75 r16's are 32.8x11.2" tires overall and the 285/70 R17 are 32.7x11.2 overall. Pretty much identical. I wouldn't worry about running on the spare too much unless you have a limited slip then I'd highly recommend you buy a full size spare because you'll be saying bye bye to the clutches fast. The 315/70r17 are 34.3 x12.4 and the width alone is going to kill ya. You may shoe horn them in but without trimming and relocating bump stops they'll rub while turning and during any offroading where the susp. is flexed. I'd stay with the 285's it's a nice looking tire.
