Speedo off?

When I bought my truck it already had 265/75R16s on it, so I assumed the guy had fixed the speedo (but I did consider it was possible that he had not).

In any case, yesterday I drove home and took the mileage, 158 miles. The last time my dad drove down in his stock F250 he said it was closer to 178 for him, so apparently Im 20 miles short and therefore my speedo is off.

Since I have a '97 with the analog speedo, all I have to change is the VSS gear right?

Can someone tell me what gear (how many teeth) I need? Also, does someone know a site that has pictures or a how-to of where the VSS gear is? Some people say it is on top of the differential, some say its connected to the tranny, which is it?

Thanks

I have they same problem, analog 97 only I went from 245 to 285 tires, I'm curious as to how off my speedo is. I don't mind doing a little math when I drive. Unless the VSS gear is a snap to swap out .

Well, from what Ive seen, its not hard at all...like a 5-10 minute job.

But Ive seen differing opinions on where it is located.

Edit:
Ok nevermind. I searched and I guess I read it wrong before.
The VSS is located on the rear of the tranny (driver's side, toward the top/on top), held on by a bolt. Supposed to have a cable coming out of it.

This site should tell you what gear to use:
http://www.finer.com/internet/pages/speedo.htm

I'll have to look for it tomorrow.
