Unhappy Emergency brake jamming/sticking....

I have a 98 F-150, and when I realease the emergency the pedal comes up & the e brake light goes off (like their supposed to), but when I drive forward it feels like its still on, and the makes a "clunk" sounds like it released.......it does this always when I use the E brake. Is it a problem with the cables? or in the rear brakes/drums? I have a 5-speed, should I just put it in gear & not use the E brake untill I get it fixed? Can it break something?
Why do you guys think its doing this? Cables?

Phil

Talked to my mechanic , and it turns out its just from not being used....I sprayed the cables w/WD-40, and he told me to USE IT a lot and it would free up (seems to be working!)

Ebrake had stuck

Mine had done the exact same thing. I ended up driving it unknowingly with the rear driver stuck a little. I own a '98 with 74k miles. I thought I would need new rear brakes since they've never been touched, and the e-brake had been stuck. To my surprise, the shop advised I had 50% left on the rears, and 75% left on the front brakes. WOW!!!! I freed up the cable with some Conklin "Luboil" and she works just fine.
