noob tires and lift ?'s advice needed
hi all...
first off i have a 2000 F150 Lariat 4x4 117,000 everything on it is stock i bought it last april,,, so this month its time to have alittle fun,, i have been doing my reading on the forums and 2 other forums but i do get alittle confused about some things so sorry if this has been beaten to death, like i said please keep it laymans terms lets face it im a noob...LOL
now i have the stock rims on it 17x7.5 i think thats the size of the stocks off the top of my head, anyways im looking at new rubber from the wranglers (265/70 R17) just something bout them i dont like,,, dont ask me what cause i havent been able to figure it out myself..lol,,,,
anyways i was looking at getting BFG A/T KO tires or some Revo's now i know from what ive read that the biggest i could go with a stock truck is a 285/70 R17 now my first ? , is there that big of a difference between 285's and 33's if any,i just dont want rubbing is all and my other ? is what would i have to do and or what do you guys suggest if i wanted to up the ante and go for broke and put 35's on? i mean if i have to have a lift put on might as well do it all the way right? and aprox how much would i be looking at for a shop to do this, i dont have a garage or access to one,,,
thanks guys i do appreciate how much you guys know and seem to help each other out and figured i got to start askin ?'s somewhere... Phil

I think 33s look good on this truck. 35s need atleast a 3 inch lift to be safe. Ive seen 35s with a 2 inch leveling kit with minor rubbing on a 04. The 285s are 32.7 inches tall, use this fun link to screw with tire size.http://www.csgnetwork.com/speedocalibcalc.html
A 285/70-17 is essentially a 33x11.50-17. Tire manufacturers round the numbers up to the next whole number. A 33x12.50-17 is nearly the identical height as a 285/70-17, it's just an inch wider. Either will clear easily on a stock 4x4 with stock wheels.
thanks guys one more thing i was looking and found pro comp makes 33 12.50 R17's AT's how good are these compared to say the BFG AT/KO tires? sorry to ask but i just cant find ratings on these like tirerack has up on their site

bfgs are by most people considered the better tire.(not to speak for everybody or anything) but if your budgets a little lower than the bfgs allow, I believe the pro comps still have buy 3 get 1 free
