wheels...Please help???

I am new to this, but have noticed that there is a lot of good info. I have a 03 FX4 Lariat Screw (no lift) and have purchased some 285 70 17 AT BFGs (thanks to all the advice from this site)...Anyway, I am about to order some Helo Maxx wheels (17x9). They make them with 2 offsets (positive and negative). I believe its like +10 and -12 OR -10 and +12. My question is: Can I fit the negative offset of the wheel (17X9) on my truck with those tires (285 70 17) without lifting or trimming my truck. The wheel folks that I have contacted about ordering the wheels tell me that I need a lift to get clearance for the negative offset wheels...Any advice PLease????? And how much more will the positive offset wheels sit in? Thanks again,
Esme

Offset always confuses me. Ask them what the backspacing is. If it is between 4 1/2 and 5 inches you will be able to fit them easily. You may have to trim just a little plastic off the front bumper's lower valance.
