Size does Matter!!!!

I have an 2002 F150 Supercrew that has been leveled by adjusting the front torsion bars, the question I have is what tire will fit (fill the wheel well) and also give me the best ground clearence possible without needing to lift the truck? I've already decided to go with Nitto Terra Grapplers, good or bad? The rims that are on the truck are 16x7's, would it be better to jump up to a 17x8 rim.

The Terra Grapplers are an excellent choice. They are one of the best all terrian tires available. As far as size, it is possible to fit up to a 35x12.50 (315/75-16 or 315/70-17) on a stock 4x4 by cranking up the torsion bars. However this is an extremely tight fit and may also require you to trim a little plastic off the front bumper's lower valance. Also, those size tire are a little too wide for a stock wheel. I think you would be better off to stick with a 33 inch tall tire. If you are gonna keep the stock wheels a 285/75-16 (33x11.50) would be a great choice. A 305/70-16 (33x12.50) will also fit, but they are also a little too wide for a stock 16x7 wheel. Running a tire on a rim that is too narrow will usually cause the center portion of the tire to wear slightly faster.

i have the 305 terra grapplers on a 16x10. i love the tires they work great. i have only had this setup for about 2 monthes. you can do a search in the gallery for pics of my setup or pm me. i wouldnt go any bigger than the 305's unless you do some sort of lift. aslo check your gear ratio before going bigger than 33's. good luck.

Hey Wandell, this is probably another one for you on this subject, but suggestions from anybody are greatly appreciated. I, too, have an '02 Supercrew 4x4. I plan to level the truck with the torsion bars and want to run 33's. I'm currently running the stock 17x7.5's with 265/70r17's with 3.55's. I saw a couple wheels I like in either a 16x10 or an 18x9... Assuming these wheels have the proper backspacing, will I have any problem running a 33x12.50 tire? I'd like to avoid a body or suspension lift if possible (too much $$$ and I can still park the truck in my garage .)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

if your truck came with 17" wheels then 16" wheels will be to small for the disc brake, at least thats what i was told. 16.5" is the smallest wheel that you can go with

You can fit 16 inch wheels on any 97-03 F-150. It is 15 inch rims that will not fit over your brakes. You can fit a 33x12.50 with either wheel, but you will have to trim a little plastic off the front bumper's lower plastic valance.

hey wandell, I would never want to question your answers beacuse you have been a huge help to me. So I have a question: Are you sure that a 16" wheel can go on a 2002 F-150, because if this is true you have just solved my tire dilema. I can run a 295/75/16 which is exacxtly what I was looking for. The only reason I ask is that I had two 4x4 stores tell me that I could not mount a 16" wheel because of the disc breaks, but I hope that you are right. That would make me really happy.

Ask them how Ford mounted 1000's of sets of 16x7 inch wheels on 2002 F-150 4x2's and 4x4's.

know i have never understood that either. they ca have 17" wheels on one truck and 16" wheels on another truck of the same year. i think it's a conspiracy to elminate the use of standard measurements.
