Stuck rotors
Hey folks! First post here. My wife drove my 98 F150 4x4 Supercab the other day and told me that there was smoke coming from the front wheels! I immediately jacked her up(the truck) and removed the front wheels. Needless to say, everything was very hot. After everything cooled off I removed the calipers and saw that one rotor was cracked and the other was visibly warped!!!! Well, I went and bought new rotors and proceeded to remove the old ones. HAHAHAHAHA They are so stuck...I wonder if they have self welded to the hubs. Needless to say I didn't get them off.
Are there any secrets to get these off? My Haynes manual said they should "slip off" after removing the calipers and caliper brackets. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, is there any way to clean the pistons inside the calipers? And how can I check if they're working properly?
Thanks

atomman1,
I just went thru changing rotors and mine were stuck just
like yours. I got a piece of brass rod about 1 1/2 dia and long
enough to hang onto with my hand so I did'nt hit my hand with
hammer, anyways I put the rod in between each stud area and
used a heavier ballpein hammer to hit brass rod and just kept working around rotor in between each stud area,
until it finially broke loose, also hit around the outside smaller diameter of rotor all the around. I did spray it with wd-40 before
I started and let it soak a while, sprayed in around studs and
from behind rotor. I did'nt think it would ever come off but after
beating around a while it popped free. I did not hit from behind
I heard that was not a good idea.
