suggestions on rims & big tires

Newbie, Just bought an 04 f150 lariat 4x4. Also paid for 6in pro comp susp lift, rims and tires. Just gotta pic em out now. I desperately need suggestions for a rim and tire combo. I like the classic MT look for rims. Has anyone know or have pics of 37in tires w/ 6in lift. Will it fit? I think it would look tougher/better than 35's. or would 35's be the way to go. How wide of a rim (17x9 or 17x10) should I get. Would the 17x10 cause tire to stick out from the body too much? Can 17x9 support 37 x 12.5 (if they fit) tires. I already paid in advance for the lift and tires. about $6000, so what should I be asking them to do for me? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Chau.

I have seen several new F-150's with 10 inch wide wheels and they stick out pretty far. If you like the MT's, they are probably your best choice. They are available in a 17x9 and 18x9 size, which has 5 inches of backspacing (I think) and will allow you to use a 12.50 or slightly wider tire (325mm). Personally, I would stick with a 35 inch tall tire. While a 37 inch tall tire MAY fit (not positive it will), you will need to regear your front and rear differentials to get your performance back. Have you considered a wide 35 inch tire, like the 325/65-18 Nitto Terra Grappler? I think they would look sweet with a 6 inch lift and the 18x9 MT's.

In my opinion 35s are way too small. I am doing a similar setup as you. Have an 04 FX4.

Going 6" Fabtech lift with Dirt Logic coilovers which will give me an extra inch of lift. This is the only way you will clear 37's. I have seen it done. 12.5 inch tire will work perfect. There are many choices on tires. I like the BFG M/T alot, but they dont make it in anything bigger than a 17". I plan to use either an 18 or 20 inch rim. Later on I am going to add a 2" body lift so I can clear a 37x13.5. In my opinion that will be perfect.

Thanks for the help guys

To keep it simple. They have been doing this 6" procomp susp lift with 17 or 18x9 weld rims with BFG AT 315 or 325's -idont remeber -(35's?) x 12.50 tires. Looks good. I will just keep with that. Later when I get use to being so high up and want to go BIGGER, then I will have someone put in a 2in body lift and switch to 37" x 12.50. Hopefully by then someone will make a 37 x 12.50 on a 17x9 rim.
-Do you guys think this set up (37" x 12.50 on a 17 x 9 rim) will look too skinny? I don't want fat looking tires, but too skinny looks messed up as well. I may have to get a whole new rim set up by the time I want to go with 37's.
-I thinkfor now I will go with a 17x9 in rim. 16 looks too small and 18's make 35" tires look smaller than 17 rim.
-Also Colby you mention a 6" fabtech with Dirt Logic coilovers. Does anyone know if this 6in Procomp lift comes with coilovers or not? Colby, are you getting an 18/20 x 9 or 18/20 x10 rim for your 37x 13.5 tires?

I really appreciate the responses I have gotten already on this thread. Thanks Chau

37x12.50 looks alright as long as your not over lifted. Thats why with the 6" Fabtech and coilovers (7" total lift) I think it will look perfect. But later on when I go to 9-10" total lift (using body lift) I want a 13.5 inch tire to even things out.

I agree about 16inch rims, and anyways you wouldnt even be able to fit them do to the size of the brakes.

As for the Dirtlogic coilovers, you can get it as part of the kit for your lift. I think it is a bit cheaper that way tha purchasing seperate.

I am still debating the width of the rim I am going to go with. When I have a 37x13.50 I will def use a 10inch wide rim. But with a 12.5 I am not sure. I would prefer to get a rim that I can use with both tire sizes though. So question is, can I use a 13.5 inch tire on a 9 inch rim??? Thanks!
