Heavy Duty Rotors
Does towing(5000lbs) lead to warped rotors
? Trailer has brakes, but not great ones...just worked on those, so hopefully better. After trailer brake work, had truck rotors turned, so braking smooth now...looking forward to next tow to see if they warp again...
Anybody else have same problem and are there any after-market HD rotors that are less likely to warp?...

Ford rotors are CRAP. They are minimal at best for their purpose. They can not take alot of abuse and will come apart(take a look at the inside of the rotor) or warp over a short period of time or mileage. Look out around the 40000 mile mark for trouble to begin. Problem has been there on Ford cars and trucks for awhile, but otherwise they are a great vehicle. If you can find a better aftermarket get them.

Yes, towing 5,000 lbs. with standard rotors - especially if the trailer brakes are not up to snuff - can lead to warped rotors. The reason lies in the amount of heat the rotors have to absorb. My experience with stock Ford rotors and towing is not so hot. I replaced all 4 rotors on my truck with Brembos from Tire rack (along with new pads) and have not had a problem since.

I'm not sure if there's a link from this site, but I think you can find them at tirerack.com, or just Google "Tire Rack." They're great to deal with and the stuff arrives in a couple of days. I just put on the standard Brembo replacement rotors. They have better stuff than that, but you may not need it. My stock front rotors were junk at 26,000 and the rears bit the dust at 32,000. Even though I could have had Ford do something under warranty, I decided to really fix the problem. I now have 51,000 on the truck with no more brake problems.

I had mine turned twice under warranty - they seemed to last 15-16,000 me before they warped. Around 45,000 I put om PowerSlot rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Truck now has over 71,000 miles w/ no problems - and that includes towing trailers, some w/ and some w/ out trailer brakes.
