Cool taller tire

I have a 1998 F150 4x4 with the offroad package. I currently have goodyear p265/70r17 on the truck and would like to go taller. The guy at the tire store is telling me that the 285/70/17 will rub unless it is a dodge. Is this true or do I have more clearance since it is the offroad package. thanks

Welcome to the site! I have seen several people fit 315/70-17 (35x12.50) BFG AT KO's on stock 97-03 F-150 4x4's by using the stock wheels, cranking up the torsion bars and trimming a little plastic off the front bumper's lower plastic valance. 285/70-17's (33x11.50) will fit easily. The problem is that every tech in every tire store can't possibly know what fits every truck. Nobody in my area has any idea what will fit on a Ford. My local guy swore that 285's would never fit on my Screw. They were not even close to rubbing.

Welcome to the site!

I have a '97 F150 4x4 Off Road Package stock with 17" rims as well. I love the 97 & 98 body styles !

I had the same question as you not too long ago. Do a search for member "GMK". He has stock suspension with a set of 295/70/17's. Said he has no proplems and they fill out the wheel wells nicely!

I plan to get a set just like his early next year (Income Tax $$)

Hope this helps you!
