Discount Tire having a hard time with my balancing.
Discount Tire having a hard time with my balancing.
Hello,
New guy on the block here, and I'm trying to figure out if anyone else is having the same problem as I.
Just picked up a new 2004 f150, and had a tire and will package installed at my local Discount Tire Store.
I went with the 285/50-20 size tires (Goodyear GT II's). My problem is that even after three attempts they still cannot get the tires balanced properly. At some given speed between 55 and 60 mph I continue to have steering wheel of vibration which is totally unacceptable on my new vehicle. Is anyone else experiencing this with these tires?
The people at Discount Tire are really trying to make his right, but the whole thing is stressing the out and I'm wondering if this is too much tire.
I am about to ask for a different tire possibly a 265/50-20 in the Falkons. The 275/55-20 is a little too tall afraid. The 275/45-20 is a little too low for me on this truck.
Thoughts? Advice?
Thanks, Reid

i have a shop down here in miami and when we run into problems like this we balance the wheel out to zero(perfect balance) and if it continues to vibrate the only other solution is a centering ring. most wheels nowadays do not come hubcentric. and when you apply the lugnuts to the hub, thw wheel tends to not go on centered. hope this helps...
Balance Trouble
I have an 04 F150 SuperCrew that is less than 3 weeks old and I am having a similiar problem. On my 2nd day of ownership I noticed a severe vibration in the driverside rear wheel between 55 and 60 mph. It has the standard XLT wheels and General 17" tires. It doesn't occur at 50 and quits about 65. I figured hey it's just a tire out of balance. Had to take it back to the dealership for another "issue" and while there had them check the tire. When I picked it up they said they could not get either rear tires to balance and have ordered me two more. Still have the vibration and waiting to see if the new tires make a difference. Somehow I really doubt it will. To be continued.
Had the same problem with new F150 and Michelins-the supposed creme of the crop. Ford said I needed a new ring and pinion and the tires/wheels fine. Decided Ford was wrong and went to Discount tires for the road force balancing.
I had the vibration in front from 60-75 and gone at 80.
Found out one tire was out with 48 pds pressure on one side.
Discount was wonderful. They rotated it on the wheel and brought it down to 28 and put it on the back.
No more steeing wheel nibble, but now a new vibration in the gas pedal.
I decided if I was going to wait for a new tire, I'd just update to better tires.
I did, and had them road force balanced, too, and watched. One of those new tires was bad!!!
Once finished, on the road, no steering wheel nibble, no gas pedal vibration.
But I did keep the same 17" wheel.
