New Rotor Suggestion
New Rotor Suggestion
I just changed out my front brake pad on my 1997 F150 SC 4x4 (5.4) last night. I probably should have changed out the rotors but the shop wanted $100 per rotor for what I knew was $39 rotors from advanced auto. They "supposedly" current turn my rotors due to their thickness which probably isn't a bad thing. As it was the shop was put on $50 front brake pads which I know were a lot cheaper, if I went ceramic it was going to be $105 a pair. The parts store brought over the ceramic and the mechanic installed them then after completion realized after looking at the box what had happened. I was not charged the difference.
Anyways I am put on new rotors this weekend (again don't know if the original owner had ever changed out the rotor so it should be interesting). The only rotors I have available in this area are Raybestos, Weaver, Bendix, Napa United, and whatever is available through Autozone (Performance Friction Carbon Metallic -www.performancefriction.com or their own Duralast Gold). I
I know Brembo's and Powerslots are the common choice amongst the group but from what I have available at ready use do you all have any recommendations?
The truck is getting her second tuneup I've own it. Just put on 115,000 miles. Was going to attempt myself but a local shop near the Naval Base who is a friend of the families offered to do it at $150 out the door with double platinum plugs. Figured it was worth the price for the hassle along. Next objective is to change out the shocks with either Rancho 5000 or ProComp ES3000 (any recommendations there also)?
All inputs would be greatly appreciated!

After checking into what Autozone told me on the phone the rotor by Performance Friction ARE NOT carbon metallic. The salesperson read the suggested pad to use with the Duralast Gold, which I should have known since I have not heard of a carbon metallic rotors. Don't know much about the Durlast Gold but so that leaves me with the Bendix and Raybestos as my top local choices.

The mid-grade Napa United (not true stop) rotos are good. The web sites lsits them at $75ea, but I think I paid $54ea a couple years ago from my local store. They had to order from distributer which took a day.
