interesting noise

I think this may be brake related, but maybe someone else has had this happen to their screw...

about a week ago I started hearing a squeak after I came to a complete stop and then started driving forward again. It goes away after I reach 35 mph+.

I went to a local shop and am pretty good friends with the owner, he took the truck in and let me watch as they inspected the front end brakes. They were pretty sure that my problem was in my slightly warped front rotor. Plus it didn't have enough surface left to "resurface." (still on factory rotors)

Needless to say I put new front rotors on and the problem went away...until this morning.

It only squeaked until 20 mph this morning...so when I got home I got out of the truck and it squeaked as I exited...so I went to the front driverside tire (side that was warped) and moved the tire forward, back, tried to push in and pull it toward me too. squeaked every time I got the truck to move.

I just took all that apart to install new rotors, pads are practically new (less than 2500 miles). Could this be a bearing or something because I didn't take my truck into ford for the 45000 mile service. They lube a bunch of stuff in the front end and I am now at 51300.

Better yet, can I lube the front end myself? Or what are some ideas on where this anoying sqeak is coming from? I'm all ears here! I'm doing 150 miles a day this week and I'm afraid that I'll trash something if I don't get this taken care of.

Thanks,
Justin

if its a 4x2 it could be front wheel bearings out of adjustment. other causes on 4x4 or 4x2 could be ball joints or tie rod ends.
acouple things that like to get squeaky sometimes are the idler arm and the pitman arm where they meet the center link. the idler arm has 2 grease fittings on it. but the pitman arm doesnt. i use a grease gun with a needle point to poke a hole in the boot and put some grease in squeak goes away. and i havent had any come back later squeking. hope this helps.

Well I bought a grease needle so we'll see what happens now that I stuck every boot and lubed 'er up.

I also took off my brake caliper on the suspected squeaking side...and just for grins I started up the truck and pushed on the brake pedal with the caliper off to the side of the rotor and pads, only one of the two feet came out of the caliper. Assuming the obvious and that it most likely isn't supposed to do that, I continued pumping until I heard the other one release. I think it was frozen in place. Now that I free'd it up, I went ahead and put some high temp grease in there and slid the foot back into the caliper. Worked on numerous attempts of pumping up the pedal after that...

So my sqeak very well could have been that bad caliper.

Now I know that some of you who are going to read this probably won't believe that I am going to continue to drive on it...so let me ask your honest opinions on that... Should I have that replaced now that I have it working again, or would I be best to just monitor the situation and wait a while?

Thanks for the insight!!

Problem solved...mostly

Okay well I had to change out my front calipers. That was a fun task...literally.

I did this myself in about 1 hour and 20 minutes and I gather that I saved myself a few hundred dollars in the process. Now my brake squeak it completely gone...

HOWEVER (there's always a however right??), I still hear a very very faint noise when I'm in the process of turning a corner. Some people that I know were with me at the time this occured riding in my truck and they said the last time they heard that it was a bearing going out...or needing to be serviced.

Would anyone else here agree with that? I'm going to post this in driveline too but maybe someone in brakes knows.

Thanks!
