LT265 Diameter = P265 Diameter?
LT265 Diameter = P265 Diameter?
Will a LT 265 tire be the same diameter as a P 265 tire? I seem to remember hearing that the LT tire is a little larger in diameter than its P series counter part, is that correct? Thanks, Boomer
I'm kinda suprised, two posts and nobody has mentioned this yet. From the information you provided it is impossible to give you a diameter comparison. The number you listed (265) is the tread width of the tire (in milimeters). The second number is the percentage of side wall height (i.e. if the second number is 70, then you would take 265 * .7 = (sidewall height in milimeters). Finally, the last number is the wheel diameter.
So from just providing us with 265 Vs. 265, we can't tell you. If you say that both are 265-70-16, then an answer could be given to your question.
On a side note, if you know the exact models of tires you are looking at (and they are a reasonably major brand) then you should be able to find complete specs on the tires. Sometimes, the same size tire varies from manufacture to manufacture.
Good luck with your question,
Steve

SteveB, you're right I wasn't specific enough. I intended to ask if there was a difference in size (diameter or height) between a LT 265 & P 265 with all else equal (ie. same series, rim size etc..). Thanks, Boomer
In general, they will likely be close, but not the same.
Example, my LT245 75 16 tires ar a full 1/2 inch larger in diameter than the same tire in P245 75 16.
Sounds stupid, but check out the manfacturers information on the tire you are interested in.
Even the same size and series tire (ie P or LT) will vary slightly between brands. They will all be realtively close to the actual mathmatically drived number though.
