Rear Drum Adjustments???

I recently replaced the rear axle seals on my 86. Changed the shoes at the same time. Also put in a new self-adjusting kit. However, the brake pedal now has excessive play. My uncle says it adjusts when you back up, but I have yet to see a difference. Any ideas?

Thanks

Depending on how far down you backed the adjuster off, it could take quite a while.

What you should do is this.
Jack the rear wheels off the ground, grab your adjusting tool and adjust the brakes till you hear the shoes drag on the drums. You'll feel the drag too.

If you've never done this before, the tool looks like a flat screwdriver that's bent in an "L" shape. On the back side of eack wheel, on the backing plate, at the bottom, you'll find an oblong slot. That's where you insert the tool.
Best thing to do is pull one wheel and drum off so you can see how and where the tool will make conact and which way to move the tool to make the adjustment.

Good luck.
