P series tires vs. LT series

Hey Guys, please bear with me....I've looked thru the threads for this question, but couldn't find it. So, would you please help me out? I'm buying a new set of tires THIS week, and need some help pronto.

I have a 2001 4X4 XLT with the stock Goodyear RT's sized P265/70R/17. Several choices are available to me in the P size tire. But the tires I really want are Cooper Discoverer S/T's but they are a LT 265/70R/17. (I can get a REALLY smokin' good deal on the Coooper LT's from a friend who runs a tire store).

I know the LT is a 'light truck' tire and handles heavier loads than the P type tires, but what are the pros/cons? Should I stick with a P series tire, or can I go to the LT tire with no problems?

THanks a bunch guys!

SC girl

Thanks! I guess I just skimmed right over that P/LT tire posting. I was in a hurry!

Thanks!
