Larger wheels

Hi, first post so be gentle

I have a 98 F150 Standard Cab XLT.

I intend on dropping it and putting 22" wheels on it. does anyone know what kind of complications I will have? or can I just put the wheels on?

Here is a picture of the truck.

You should be able to fit 22's without any other mods. If you don't mind a suggestion, I'd go ahead and install a set of drop shackels in the rear to bring the rear end down to where it's level with the front. I'd also remove the nerf bars as they don't really go with the "street truck" look that 22's will give you. You could sell them and use the money toward a suspension drop if you choose to lower it. Also, I love the color.

thanks for the reply!

I love the color too, I love the truck to be honest.

The bars came on the truck, and I like them, but I agree that they will have to go when it gets dropped.

How do drop shackles affect the ride?

97-03 Reg. Cab F150's will rub with anything bigger than 20". Trimming will need to be done if you go 22".

Drop Shackles?

What are these? Are they hard to put on?

NEVER2LOW2TONE,

Tell the guy what size then to put on. 305/45/22 are too big. They rub at full radius.

chasenn,

I just put on a set of Kuhmo 305/45/22 and I don't see or hear a rub? Where do you say it is? I appear to have 1 - 1-1/2 inch clearance in the front.

What do you mean at full radius?

2001 F150 SuperCrew 2x4

Thanks.

If I can ask: Where did you get your kuhmos? They are 280 bucks as far as I can tell, and I'd like to get them cheaper.

I actually feel backasswads into them. I was at the tint shop paying a buddy's bill when I noticed them. Some guy had come in to sell them after his wife split. $1800 mounted on Moto rims with the Kuhmo tires? I was in the market for the Harley 20" rims though. I did some research and figured even if I didn't like the 22" I could sell them for more or a least break even? Just put them on yesterday, I do not see any rubbing, still trying to figure out the proper inflation, torque for the lugs, and it did shift the speedometer off 4-5 mph.

I have received numerous comps.

Yes there is rub on the frame both sides. Will a lift kit or is there a way to lock down the stearing radius to stop the rubbing?
