Post New Tire Problem

Ok, heres the deal. I have a set of 265/75/16 Uniroyal Laredo M/T's with almost 4000 mi on them. Along the base of all the outside lugs there are cracks. I have never seen any other tires do this before besides the swamper TSL. According to the dealer he said that all mud tires do this (I don't believe him on that point).

He called Uniroyal and they will give me a brand new set of the Laredo M/T for free, or equal credit. I can get any tire the dealer has and still get the credit.

Now here is where I need some feedback. I can
1) Get the brand new tires exactly like what I already have for free, but the 265/75 is the largest ones that they have in a 16" rim.
2) I could go up to a 285/75/16 Kelly Trailcutter R/T. It isn't quite as agressive, but it is a harder rubber. It would cost me $85 plus my credit to go to these tires.
3) This dealer sells Interco tires and I have seen the new Trxus mud tires size 285/75/16 for $130 at Nat'l Tire & Wheel. My current tires are valued at $115 a tire. I don't know what this dealer will give me for a price on the Trxus tires so I will call him tommorrow.

I want to go to a 285/75 tire and this would be a good time to do it. Right now money is an issue so I have to try and spend as little as possible, but I am wondering if it would be a good idea to go to the larger size if it doesn't cost too much. Also has anyone had any experience with the Kelly-Springfield Trailcutter R/T or the Interco Trxus mud tires. I am kinda worried that if I go with the same tires I have right now that the new ones will crack too and if I go back they won't replace them.

I'm wary of "hard" tires. The last set of Kelly tires that I owned were horrible. The rubber compound was so hard that traction was impossible and the ride was awful. They weren't the model you're considering, though. I think these were Safari SJRs(?) in a highway tread with LT ratings.

The dealer I am dealing with has really been hyping the KS tires. Back when I had the Wilderness A/Ts he was trying to sell me the Trailcutters. I'm not really sure about them, but I really want the 285/75 tires and if he has the Trxus tires at $165 where they are listed at for suggested price I won't be getting those.

Ok I just called the tire dealer and he said that he didn't want to mess with special ordering the Trxus tires. Although he did have a price listed at $135 a tire (same price as the Trailcutters). So I went with the Trailcutters. They will be put on tommorrow, and I will take some pics.
