Post GY AT/S vs BFG A/T in snow

I'm getting ready to purchase some tires for the rig. I was wondering from members' experience which tires perform better in the snow. I do a lot of snowmobiling on Tug Hill and the snow can get pretty deep. Would like to have the better tires. Have heard that BFG A/t's aren't that great. Anyone run the GY and have a comment? I have the 17 inch ORP rims. What sizes have you used?

I put on the BFG A/T's on my last truck and loved them! I thought they did very well in the snow. A buddy owns a landscape co. here that plows snow in the winter and he recommended them to me. He has them on his entire fleet. The Goodyears on my '00 ORP are ok in the snow. The wet traction sucks and I'm starting to lose dry traction after only 20,000. Never had any complaints with the BFG except the great big "sucking noise" my credit card made when paying for them. I would highly recommend the BFG A/T's over the Goodyears.

yep, go with the bfg's...i've owned several sets and they have done really well for me in both snow and ice...good luck, Rich..

Go with the BFG's. I replaced my Goodyears with the BFG's after 15K miles. I got tired of the hydroplaning and the lack of traction offroad.

I replaced mine with the factory size. Take a look...

How about some Michelin LTX M/S they make them in P265/70R17 not sure if that is the right size

I know that I am probably going to take some heat for saying this brand, but the Bridgestone Dueler ATs are really good. Both wet traction, dry traction, and very good offroad. Haven't had them in the snow yet, but if they preform like the ones that I had on my Jeep, then I will love them. Just my two cents worth....Plus the tires are cheaper than both the Goodyears and the BFG's and they come with a 50,000 mile tread life warranty....One great bonus for an offroad tire.

Heat for bringing up that brand tires?Not a chance.I have a buddy w/a mazda(ford in disguise) 4x4 and that is all he will run on them> last hunting season we ran into some serious snow(well for around here in the fall) about 18 inches on the roads. Those tires did extremely well.One more thing he usually gets 50,000 miles out of them.
I have the pirelli scorpion at on my truck and love them so far.I haven't had them in over 6 inches of snow yet buy they did perform well in the snow they were in.Need to make time to try their mud performance.Also no hydroplaning issues whatsoever with these tires.

BFG is the best all-terrain out there, bottom line. The also have a 50,000 mile warranty. I'm on my second set of BFG's, plan on a third.

Mudder,
How well do the bfgs perform when they are down to 50% or less tread?The reason I am asking this is that I heard that they are like drag racing slicks when they start to wear down some.I am not trying to make anyone mad here,I just want an honest answer from someone who has owned multple sets of these tires.

Well on my last set which were 265's, I had them down pretty good, but were still good on the road, and in the rain. A lot better than those stock Good Years, that is for sure. I wouldn't have bought another set if they weren't any good. When the tires get down to a point when they get slick, just get ya another set. I'm not really a fan of Bridgestone/Firestone, as a lot of others are, they look like just plain tires. I like BFG cause of the tread look, which is cool, the name and quality. If you want one AT tire, then why would you pass up BFG? It's a really good tire, last a good while. This is just what I think though. I know that Pro Comp is a good tire also, similar too BFG.

Not to make you mad, but I also looked into the BFG AT, but at the price of them, I couldn't see spending close to $200 a tire for my truck, when I could get the Dueler ATs for $318 dollars for all Four tires (just from my personal expirences). I know that I could save some money if I would get different wheels, and not have the 17 inchers on my truck, but I love the looks of the Chrome wheels that came on the 99 Offroads.

MNFOrd, I know the feeling. I am about to buy a new set of 17's in the next couple of weeks and I can't imagine almost $800 for a set of BFG's including tax. Where did you find the Dueler that cheap? I like them and the Yokohama Geolander AT+.

If I read correctly and I think I did, Pooley asked which tires performed better in the snow. Not which tire was most cost effective.
Pooley, did you ask how much they cost?

I have run the AT/S, BFG's and the Dueler's; the BFG's the by far the best. I know the snow in your part of the state can get rough, you won't be dissatisfied.

def. go with the BFG's that is what i had on mine before the lift and new wheels n meats. i also ran a cooper discoverer STT mud terrain they are great in the mud/snow but theyre obnoxious on the road....very noisy
had a set of 33x12.50's on before the geolanders and they were great just got the geolander for the looks
