I have just replaced my stock 255\70\16 with 275\70\16 Pirelli Scorpions. Doing the math relates this combo is a little over an inch taller than stock. A 285\75 will be approx 2.5 to 2.75 inches taller. The dealer is correct that that would be about as large as you can go on stock rims. The Pirelli Scorpions S\T certainly gave my truck a beefy look and were 102 each at Gateway tire. Tirerack.com is a good source for tire info. Good luck.

The other day I was checking down there and I think the best way to get the best posible fit is measuring from side to side of the hitch. I am still carrying the stock 265/70R17 Good Year. But if you are in a hurry and do not have enough replies with real life experiences you can do it yourself. Almost every tire website have tire spec's so you can do the math regarding tire diameter and fit the largest posible tire in there.

Good luck and keep us informed how it goes.

Cool

Thanks for the info..I put tires on the truck today ended up going with a Dunlop A/T Radial Rover, really nice looking tire, I don't think that a 285/75/16 woulda fit. I highly reccomend these tires their tough looking have a treadwear of 500- 60,000 mile tire and priced right at $100 ea. Thanks for all the info again.

Question

I have the 235-70X16 firestone wilderness II tires and would like to know if anyone has gone up to a Dunlop 285-75X16 size, similar size. Truck is a 99 4X4, and the stock 16's look like toys. Should I anticipate any problems, like downshifting etc.. Truck has 30k on the original tires and has moved from florida to the mountains of NC.

Thanks for the comments.....
