Preventing Aluminum corrosion on rims

I got a new (used) 01 F150 Last year and want to keep my rims looking nice and prevent the salt from NY state roads from corroding them. I had a 93 Ranger and within 2 winters up north they really looked rough. Does anyone have some tips to coat or otherwise protect rims from this type of effect. I wash them off regulary but I don't believe this will be enough. My Ranger developed the corrision first around where the wheel weights were attached and feel this area is the one of the biggest causes. Any information would be appreciated.

Have the wheel weights moved to the inside of the rim-------that's where mine are now
