Wheels and Tires for 1998 F150

I found a good deal on some 31X11.50X15 Rock Crawler wheels with Super Swamper tires. I was wondering if these would fit on my F150 2wd without any lift? I've heard you have to have at least 16" wheels, I'm hoping these will work, also if these don't work do you know anyway to make them. thanks

It's possible to fit 15's on 97 an 98 F-150's, but I would advise against it. First of all, you will need a wheel with very little backspacing, like 2 1/2 inches. THis makes the tires stick way out which puts a lot of strain on suspension and front end components and causes tire fitment problems. Are you sure the wheels you're looking at are 5x135mm bolt pattern? THere are only a couple of 15 inch rims still made in this bolt pattern because of the above reasons. Do yourself a favor and stick with 16's or 17's.

Well that stinks...it was a good deal. Since that's down the drain what do you think are the biggest tires I could fit on my stock 16's without any trimming or torqueing at all? i've heard 305/70's and I've also heard the largest you can go is 285/75? thanks for the reply

I put 285/75-16's (33x11.50) on my truck right after I bought it. They were not even close to rubbing with the stock 16x7 wheels. I've seen several people fit 315/75-16's and 315/70-17's (35x12.50) on stock 4x4's by using the stock wheels, cranking up the torsion bars and trimming a little plastic off the front bumper's lower plastic valance. That being said, 305's and 315's are a little wide for a 7 inch wide wheel. This may cause the center portion of the tread to wear a little quick. If you never plan on changing wheels or lifting the truck, I'd stick with 285's.

thanks a lot, i'm looking to get the most mileage for my buck so i'll probably go with the 285's. that's a lot better than the 245/75's i've got on it now. thanks again
