Question taller and wider tires...how big is too big?

I own a 99 F-150 4x4 and would like to install wider and slightly taller tires than the Firestone 235x70-16's that came with the truck. Is there some guide that can tell me what sizes will fit right without changing my suspension and body height? I've seen some pics of trucks with 33x10.50's and 34x12's that look good. I don't want to "jump stumps" just look good without emptying my wallet. Thanks in advance!

This has been discussed many times on the boards-- some things to consider are that you will be affecting the truck's power, gearing, speedometer, and odometer. In fact, depending on how much larger you go, you may have to have your computer retuned or you could expect some mechanical problems later...

Thumbs up

The largest tires you're gonna fit on a stock 4X4 is 305/70-16 or 33X12.5's. These tires may require a removing a small amount of material from the plastic valance.

Good advice fellas. I'll start checking out the 265/75/16's. They seem to be a popular size among the people here. I do love the look of the BFG T/A KO's. I even liked them when they came out on my '78 Ford 4x4 as an OEM tire with the white spokers. Remember the white spokes??? Sheesh, giving away some of my age here...Jim

I remember the white spokers. Came with bias-belted G78 X 15 Goodyear Polyglas tires. The next great thing, as I recall.
